Nintendo has officially announced that its Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers will not be redeemable for Switch 2-exclusive titles. Originally introduced in 2019, the voucher system allowed Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to buy two vouchers for $100 and redeem them for select first-party digital games at a discount. While the program remains active for existing Nintendo Switch games, including upcoming releases, it will not extend to the next-generation Switch 2 exclusives.
Cross-Platform Titles May Still Be Eligible
The announcement specifically states that the vouchers won’t apply to Switch 2-exclusive games, leading to speculation that cross-platform titles may still qualify. Some games, such as Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, are currently categorized as Switch 1 releases, suggesting they might still be voucher-eligible if they launch on both consoles. However, this remains unconfirmed.
Nintendo Switch Online Price Hikes & Backward Compatibility
In addition to the voucher update, Nintendo has recently raised the price of Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions in Latin America, with Brazil seeing a 20–25% increase in membership costs. On a positive note, Nintendo has confirmed that Switch 2 will feature backward compatibility, allowing players to continue using their existing Switch game library on the new console.
